Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.)

The Government of India, in pursuance of the decision of the Cabinet Committee on Skill Development held on 19th December 2013, issued a notification for the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF).

Under the National Skills Development Corporation, many Sector Skill Councils representing respective industries have been or are being established. One of the mandates of Sector Skill Councils is to develop National Occupational Standards (NOSs) for various job roles in their respective industries. It is mandated to embed the competencies required for specific job roles in the higher education system for creating employable graduates.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) launched a skill-development-based higher education scheme as part of college and university education, leading to the Bachelor of Vocation degree with multiple exits such as Diploma and Advanced Diploma under the NSQF.

The B.Voc. programme combines specific job roles and their NOSs with broad-based general education. It enables graduates to gain meaningful employment, become entrepreneurs and contribute to India’s economic growth.
